Blauwet Elected Chair of B.A.A. Board of Governors

Cheri Blauwet, MD

Cheri Blauwet, MD, Distinguished Chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Brigham and chief medical officer of Spaulding Rehabilitation, was elected chair of the Board of Governors of the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.). A board member since 2016, two-time winner of the Boston Marathon wheelchair division and seven-time Paralympic medalist, Blauwet will lead the 11-member board in providing guidance to the B.A.A. and overseeing its business operations.

With this appointment, she succeeds Brigham urologist Michael O’Leary, MD, who has served as B.A.A. board chair for the last six years.

Blauwet, a Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine physician, is both an athletic champion and a leader in medicine. Translating her background as an athlete to the clinical setting, she aspires to be a change agent in the area of disability and health equity, with a specific focus on sport and physical activity for health promotion and chronic disease prevention. She is deeply committed to ensuring that opportunities for achieving optimal health are equitable and universally accessible to all, inclusive of people with disabilities.

Established in 1887, the Boston Athletic Association is a nonprofit organization with a mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle through sports, especially running. The B.A.A. manages the Boston Marathon and supports comprehensive charity, youth and year-round programming. The 128th Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America is scheduled to take place on April 15, 2024.
