Brigham Earns Another 'A' for Patient Safety in Fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

BOSTON – Brigham and Women’s Hospital received an ‘A’ in the fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, released today by The Leapfrog Group. This highest distinction acknowledges the Brigham’s top-level commitment to protecting patients from harm and offering the safest health care.

“We are incredibly proud to receive another ‘A’ grade from the Leapfrog Group. This recognition confirms Brigham’s dedication to ensuring safety and providing first-rate care continuously to our patients and their families,” said Andrew Resnick, MD, MBA, chief Quality and Safety officer at the Brigham. “Earning the highest possible safety grade reflects the diligence and dependability of our caregivers, staff, volunteers and leadership at every level.”

This honor marks the eighth ‘A’ grade celebrated by Brigham and Women’s Hospital since the fall of 2017. More information about the Brigham’s commitment to quality patient care and safety can be found here.

The Leapfrog Group evaluates and assigns a grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their patient care performance in avoiding medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms. The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, is dedicated to advancing safety and quality in the health care industry.

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are accessible to the public.
