Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital Achieves Magnet® with Distinction Recognition

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, a member of the Mass General Brigham healthcare system, has once again achieved Magnet designation, this time with Distinction, in recognition of its nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. According to the Commission on Magnet, BWFH is one of five hospitals in the world to hold Magnet with Distinction. BWFH is one of just 15 hospitals in the state to hold Magnet designation, which also includes 4 other Mass General Brigham member institutions.

“Magnet recognition with Distinction is an honor for our entire organization and is a true reflection of the high quality care we provide to patients and their families as well as our commitment to collaboration with colleagues and the advancement of nursing practice,” said Karen Reilly, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. “I want to applaud all of our nurses and our entire Faulkner community for this well-deserved recognition of the excellent, compassionate care they provide each and every day.”

To achieve Magnet® recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that involves widespread participation from leadership and staff. This process includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, a virtual site visit and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition.

Health care organizations must reapply for Magnet recognition every four years based on adherence to Magnet concepts and demonstrated improvements in patient care and quality. An organization reapplying for Magnet recognition must provide documented evidence to demonstrate how staff members sustained and improved Magnet concepts, performance and quality over the four-year period since the organization received its initial recognition.
