Mediastinal Tumors

Mediastinal tumors are rare growths that form in the mediastinum—the space in the middle of the chest between the lungs. The mediastinum contains the aorta, esophagus, heart, thymus and trachea. Most mediastinal tumors in adults occur in the front (anterior) mediastinum and affect people ages 30 to 50. Specialists at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) Lung Center offer patients proven leadership in the full spectrum of care for thymic disorders:

  • Thymoma
  • Myasthenia cravis
  • Thymic carcinoma
  • Thymic carcinoid
  • Thymic cysts
  • Germ cell tumors
  • Metastatic tumors
