What causes symptomatic varicose veins?
Varicose veins that cause discomfort develop from faulty valves in the veins. When this occurs, blood pools in the smaller veins causing them to bulge and take on a ropelike appearance. Weight change, pregnancy and aging can contribute to the development of varicose veins.
While varicose veins are quite common, the condition generally worsens over time. Left untreated, the condition is not only uncomfortable but can alter your lifestyle. In rare cases, can lead to venous insufficiency that prevents the normal return of blood to the heart.
How do you know if you have symptomatic varicose veins?
While most vein disease can be seen by looking at the size and color of the veins at the skin surface, the best way to know if you have the condition is with a consult and simple non-invasive ultrasound exam. Through the exam, we can determine the condition and functioning of your veins, and based on your prior medical history and current condition, map out a customized treatment plan.
Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT®) works by activating a laser inside and along the length of your faulty varicose vein. The laser energy shrinks the vein walls closed so that blood can no longer flow through and is re-routed to other veins.
No, there are many veins in the leg and when the faulty vein in closed, the blood flow simply re-routes to your normal veins with healthy valves. The loss of the vein is not a problem for your health.
Will insurance pay for the treatment?

Brief description of your vein condition
Home and alternate work numbers
Your primary physician or health care provider and whether or note you would like us to send a report of your visit to that provider.
Your insurance or HMO information
How can I prepare for my appointment?
Please assist us by bringing the following to your appointment:
Referral form (for HMO insurance, if needed)
Insurance cards and a means of identification such as a driver’s license
List of current medications you are taking including prescriptions, over the counter medications, and any herbs
Relevant information about your medical and surgical history, such as pertinent x-rays or other records
Important questions you would like to ask the doctor
How do I reschedule or cancel an appointment?
Please provide at least 48 hours notice so that we may allow other patients the opportunity to take your appointment and, if necessary, reschedule your visit. However, it is most courteous to call as soon as you realize you must reschedule or cancel. Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you are running late, please call ahead and let us know your estimated time of arrival.
What if my insurance information changes?
Please notify our offices immediately so we can work with your new insurance company to cover your procedures.
