Department of Urology
The Department of Urology is the surgical team for Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center, a unique treatment center that unites specialists from our top-ranked hospital and experts from one of the world’s leading cancer institutes. Working together as one singularly-focused team, we offer advanced and proven cancer treatments that save lives.
Our board-certified urologic surgeons specialize in prostate, kidney, bladder, testicular and penile cancers and are engaged in ongoing medical research in these same areas — developing innovative approaches that improve patient outcomes and quality of life. We are dedicated to educating patients about their specific cancer and treatment options so they can make informed decisions.
From diagnosis to treatment, our multidisciplinary team of surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurses and other healthcare professionals work collaboratively with patients. We stress open communication every step of the way, making the cancer treatment experience as stress-free as possible. This patient-physician partnership gives patients access to the latest promising therapies, many of which have been pioneered by Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) urologists. In recent years, we have completed thousands of robotic-assisted surgeries for genitourinary cancers, a minimally invasive approach that allows unmatched surgical precision, fewer risks and a quicker recovery.
Our goal is to treat and ultimately eliminate urologic cancers while minimizing the effects of treatment on health and lifestyle. Our urology practice consists of board-certified urologic surgeons and a supportive clinical and administrative staff who work as one cohesive team to provide the best possible care for each patient. In addition, patients have full access to BWH’s world-renowned academic medical center in Boston with its multidisciplinary specialists and state-of-the-art facilities.

When Alan Caviness was told his prostate cancer could wait, a chance conversation made him think twice. He turned to Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center, where single-port robotic surgery successfully treated his cancer. Now cancer-free, Alan urges all men: ask questions, get second opinions, and don’t delay when it comes to your health.

Brigham and Women’s Hospital is revolutionizing urologic cancer care with single-port robotic surgery—an advanced technique that allows complex procedures to be performed through a single three-centimeter incision. Our expert surgeons are not only leading the charge in treating kidney, bladder, and testicular cancers but are also training surgeons from around the world in this game-changing technology.
