Fellowship training in subspecialties of Anatomic Pathology is available to trainees who are eligible for American Board of Pathology certification in either AP (starting Year 4) or combined AP/CP (starting Year 5).
In addition, Advanced Subspecialty-Elective years following a fellowship-level curriculum are available to BWH Pathology AP Residents (starting Year 3) who have completed the core curriculum. Fellows have greater responsibility and independence, and play a key role in the orientation, training and supervision of residents.

Trainees eligible for Primary ABP Certification in AP or Combined AP/CP often pursue additional year(s) of training to become competent in one or more subspecialties of interest.
Such Fellowship training does not lead to additional certification, and is not accredited by the ACGME. Fellows benefit from exposure to the world-renowned faculty and surgical pathology material, and are involved in review of consultation material, clinicopathologic correlation and tumor board conferences.
Trainees may apply for the year-long Surgical Pathology Fellowship, which provides advanced training in multiple clinical subspecialty areas. Also available is a Cytogenetics Pathology Fellowship.
Alternatively, trainees may apply for a year-long concentrated Fellowship in one of the subspecialty areas listed below:
