To make an MRI appointment, we need an order from your doctor. Partners Healthcare physicians will create the order in our electronic order entry system and will also schedule the appointment for the time and location you choose. Non-Partners Healthcare physicians will need to fax your order to us and you can then call us to schedule your appointment. You can change your appointment by calling Radiology Scheduling.
Most insurance companies require pre-authorization for imaging exams to be performed. If you have questions regarding pre-authorization requirements, please call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card. If pre-authorization is required, that process will be initiated by the physician who ordered your imaging exam.
If you do not have insurance, the BWH Financial Counseling Office can assist you with the MassHealth/Medicaid application process.
If your imaging exam was performed at BWH or one of our community-based locations, your images and reports are saved to your electronic medical record within four hours after completion of your exam. You can get a copy of your images on a CD at the BWH Image Service Center or any of our community-based locations. You will need to complete a release form, which you can bring with you or fax prior to pick-up. You will also need to provide positive identification to receive your images.
