Brigham and Women's Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (CMBS) is an industry leader in safe and effective, patient-focused weight loss surgery. Our board certified surgeons are Harvard Medical School faculty with world-class training in the most advanced bariatric surgery procedures to treat obesity and associated health risks. Nationally accredited as a comprehensive bariatric surgery center since 2006, CMBS is currently accredited through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint accreditation of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Our surgeons have performed thousands of laparoscopic operations including the Roux-En-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy or gastric sleeve, gastric banding (also known as adjustable gastric band or LAP-BAND) and revisional bariatric surgery. These minimally invasive procedures can be done with robotic-assisted technology and result in less pain, shorter hospital stays and improved outcomes.
Led by Scott Shikora, MD, FACS, Director, Brigham and Women's Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, our surgeons are respected throughout the world, not only for their surgical expertise but also as skilled researchers who pioneer new treatments. They educate the next generation of bariatric surgeons through BWH’s advanced minimally invasive fellowship program.
The multidisciplinary team of CMBS collaborates with specialists at BWH and within our patients’ communities, so that all medical needs are met. Emphasizing open communication and honesty throughout the weight loss journey, our team of experts is with you every step of the way: from the first information session to one-on-one meetings with your surgeon, dietitian, psychologist and financial counselor to your chosen surgical procedure and beyond.
We extend a lifetime weight loss partnership to you, with access to medical and support services—ensuring that your new, slimmer life remains your forever life.
