CMBS Program Events

Brigham and Women's Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (CMBS) offers a variety of educational and support groups for patients and their families. These groups teach patients about surgical options and prepare them for life after surgery, and provide support both pre- and post-surgery. Contact the CMBS team if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you!

Information Sessions

Learn about the types of bariatric surgery that we offer, the types of appointments you’ll have with our team, how your diet and lifestyle will need to change, and how to get approved by your insurance company. Our surgeons, dietitians, and administrative support team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Learn more about bariatric surgery information sessions.

Pre-operative Weight Reduction (POWR) Group

This group is required by some insurance companies, but all patients are welcome to join. We will cover many topics to help you get ready for surgery, including reading nutrition and supplement labels, behavioral challenges, portion sizes, changing your food environment, and what to expect for life after surgery. Learn more about our Pre-operative Weight Reduction (POWR) group.

Bariatric Forum

This group is offered once per month and is open to all patients, pre-op or post-op, as well as family members and friends. Each month we discuss a different topic, such as plastic surgery, protein shake tasting, holiday eating, and body image. You’ll also have the chance to meet other patients as well as members of our team. We encourage patients to attend at least once before surgery and to keep coming back after surgery too. Post-operative Behavioral Support Groups

Our bariatric psychologist, Dr. Paul Davidson leads several post-operative support groups. All patients will attend a group 6-8 weeks after surgery.

Additionally, Dr. Davidson leads groups designed for patients who are further out from surgery and are looking for extra support in a small group setting. Learn more about this Post-operative Behavioral Support Group.
