Dr. Nawal Nour is the chief diversity officer for faculty, trainees and students at Brigham and Women's Hospital. In addition, she is the Director of the African Women’s Health Center and the Director of both the Ambulatory Obstetrics and the Global Obstetrics Practices at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Nour is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School.
Recently named one of Forbes 40 Women to Watch Over 40, Dr. Nour established the world renowned African Women's Health Center which provides appropriate holistic health and outreach programs to the African community in Boston. As the founder and current director, Dr. Nour was honored as a 2003 MacArthur Foundation Fellow for creating the country’s only center of its kind that focuses on both physical and emotional needs of women who have had or undergone female genital cutting. This work has been covered by the media including the Associated Press, New York Times, Washington Post, NPR, O and Essence magazine.
Dr. Nour was born in the Sudan and raised in Egypt and England. She came to the United States to attend Brown University. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed an Ob-Gyn residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and a MPH at Harvard School of Public Health. She has received numerous awards for her community work and outreach including honorary doctorate degrees from Bowdoin College and Williams College.
H. Timothy Ewing, PhD, is the vice president of Employee Diversity, Inclusion & Experience. In this position, Tim works closely with the vice president of Patient Experience to develop and implement a plan that will enhance the BH culture and environment so that all patients, families and employees are welcomed, included, engaged and recognized. This includes building a more diverse, supportive and inclusive organization where all employees feel a sense of belonging and are empowered to succeed and grow.
Tim has over 20 years of human resources leadership experience, with a strong background in diversity and inclusion, culture transformation, organizational development and talent management. He was previously at Baystate Health, where he was vice president of Talent Management and Inclusion, as well as chief learning and inclusion officer. Prior to that, Tim was president and founder of BreakThrough Dynamics International, a global diversity and organizational development consulting firm, where he helped large organizations – including Abbott Laboratories, Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company and Novartis, among many others – strategically plan and advance their programs for diversity and inclusion, leadership development and organizational change.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications/Mass Media Research from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, a master’s in International and Intercultural Management from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vt., and a doctorate of philosophy in Organizational Behavior from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Tina Gelsomino is the Director of the Center for Diversity & Inclusion at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She works to advance the Brigham’s diversity and inclusion strategy to all support faculty, trainees and medical students by focusing resources and support on a robust set of recruiting, retention and engagement initiatives and in close alignment with the priorities of the Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer.
Most recently, Tina served as assistant vice president of Administration for the Division of Development at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she oversaw operations and talent management for 270 staff members.
Prior to that, she was administrative director of the Center for Faculty Development & Diversity at the Brigham, supporting faculty career development and diversity, with a special focus on advancing opportunities for women, underrepresented minority groups and research faculty.
In addition to being a certified business coach, Tina is a trained negotiator and completed the Harvard Law School Negotiation Certificate Program. She holds a master’s in social work from Boston College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brandeis University.
Molly Hines is the Program Manager for the Center for Diversity & Inclusion at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She works alongside the Chief Diversity Officer and the Director to support faculty, trainees and medical resources both programmatically and through various faculty development and engagement initiatives.
Molly comes to the Brigham with a robust marketing and communications background. Having graduated from Simmons College with a dual degree in marketing and communications, most recently, Molly served as account executive at FleishmanHillard, a public relations and communications agency. While in this position, she served as the main point of contact on several high-level accounts and supported and developed marketing and integrated communications materials. She also led and managed the Boston intern program.
Leila Aruri is the program coordinator for the Center for Diversity & Inclusion at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Leila joins the CDI Team from University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health Sciences and a particular focus in Social Determinants of Health and Reproductive Justice. Her passion is to cultivate more equitable, accessible and inclusive spaces that value intersectional forms of identity. At the CDI, she manages the Center’s two Pathway Programs, the Summer Training in Academic Research and Scholarship (STARS) Program and the Four Directions Summer Research Program (FDSRP).
