Neurosurgery Residency Application Process

The program participates in the Neurosurgical Matching Program; interested candidates should submit an application through the ERAS/NRMP. Each year, faculty reviews all applications, and approximately 30 candidates are selected for interviews. Candidates are encouraged to submit their applications as early as possible, and applications are generally not considered after all interview slots are filled. Strong candidates demonstrate a commitment to academic neurosurgery (clinical and basic science) and the ability to work as a team.

The interview process is a two-day activity. The interview dates for 2019/2020 are the following:

Wednesday and Thursday - November 13 - November 14, 2019
Wednesday and Thursday - December 11 - December 12, 2019
The general schedule for each interview session includes:

Day 1

1:45pm Candidates Arrive
2:00pm - 3:00pm Overview (Chairman/Program Director) Presentation
3:00pm - 4:00pm Tour of Facilities
4:00pm - 7:00pm Interviews
7:30pm Dinner with Residents

Day 2

9:00am-12:00pm Interviews
12:00pm - 12:30pm Lunch

2:00pm Candidates depart

After the interviews are completed, the faculty will meet and discuss all applicants, and a ranking list will be generated, from which two or three will be matched as residents for the upcoming year. The Residency Program in Neurological Surgery at Harvard Medical School/Brigham & Women's Hospital/Boston Children's Hospital does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race and ethnic orientation.
