Neurosurgery Residency Application Process

The Brigham and Women’s and Boston Children’s Hospital program participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Interested candidates should submit an application through the standard Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Each year, approximately 40 candidates are selected to interview for 2-3 spots. Strong candidates demonstrate a commitment to academic neurosurgery and the ability to work as a team.

The interview process is a two-day activity that begins at noon on Wednesday and ends in the early afternoon the following day. Dinner with the residents takes place on Wednesday night.

The interview dates for the 2019/2020 cycle (for medical students graduating in 2020) are:

  • Date 1: Wednesday and Thursday - November 13 - November 14, 2019
  • Date 2: Wednesday and Thursday - December 11 - December 12, 2019

Applicants should expect to receive an introduction by the chairperson or program director, be taken on a tour of the facilities, experience teaching conferences and attend dinner with the residents on Wednesday night. All applicants will interview with faculty from both the Brigham and Women’s and Boston Children’s Hospitals.
